Week Recap by Ava Chatterson

Well, it's almost the end of the first week of rehearsals!  It's been a challenge to learn so much new choreography but it's also been a lot of fun.  This is the first time I've ever been in a production of Romeo & Juliet, and it's also the first time I've seen Sacramento Ballet's version.  I'm having a good time working with everyone and am excited to be a part of this ballet.

This week has been full of different rehearsals.  The Romeos and Juliets have been learning their pas de deuxs and various solos, everyone has been learning market dances and parts of the ball scene, and all the men of the company have started practicing their swordfighting.  One of my favorite times this week was when the whole company got to learn a little bit of stage combat from the fight master, Dexter.  We all had fun learning the correct way to slap and pull someone's hair onstage. :)

It's interesting to watch rehearsals throughout the day and see the progress of all the scenes.  Everyone is so focused and committed to their roles and the story of the ballet.  I can't wait until everything is put together and I can see the ballet as a whole.

The pictures below were taken throughout the week by Alex Biber, a fellow company dancer!
